Chinese group YONGSHENG have taken over Calais lacemakers Desseilles Laces in a deal brokered with support from the North France Invest regional development authority in partnership with Calais Promotion.
YONGSHENG is a large, family-run group operating in the industrial textiles, new materials and 3D printing sectors. The acquisition is intended to broaden its portfolio of textile activities and strengthen its presence in the high-end sector.
Following a first visit in February 2016, Natacha Bouchart, President of Cap Calaisis, Mayor of Calais and Vice-President of the Hauts-de-France Regional Authority, recently received a delegation led by chair and founder of the group, Mr Cheng Li. Setting out his development objectives for the Calais business, he announced the group’s intention to step up Desseilles Laces’commercial presence on the international stage. Initially, YONGSHENG intends to expand activity sufficiently to increase the workforce from 60 to 75 employees, so returning it to its previous strength. Talks also touched on potential collaboration between YONGSHENG and Calais’s Lace Training Centre.
Given their involvement in digital technologies and 3D printing, the Chinese executives also took the opportunity of their time in Calais to visit the digital business incubator Tektos and FABLAB.
